Fleurs de Provence

This spring and beginning of summer have seen lot of rain in the south of France, and every day new flowers come out, each unique and special.

Vauban

In Freiburg, I stayed in Vauban. It's a neighborhood which is unique in two aspects. 1) It was conceived by (5000) people getting together and deciding to build it from scratch, which means that each flat is unique. 2) It's green: tramway and bicycle are the main transportation modalities (cars in lots more than half a mile from the house, and 70% of people just gave them up). Recycling everywhere, vegetation on roofs, etc.

It's such a big deal that it's part of the World Expo in Shanghai. Check it out here.

Freiburg's old town

One side of the town is still right against the Black Forest.

This to me summarizes Freiburg: gothic and green.

Beautiful stonework.

This looks like a pagoda, doesn't it?

Little waterways weave their network all through the old town, to the delight of the young ones.

Walk in the Black Forest

I've been staying in Freiburg, at the edge of the German Black Forest. These photos are from a walk at sunset. A couple more posts are coming on Freiburg itself.
