The moon over the grapevines

Back in Burgundy, I wanted to catch the full moon of May before the rain and rain it did on the day. I took a bike and my camera on the Charnay-les-Macon's old village roads and made random turns in the evening light.

These are the vines that give you the Macon-Village, an excellent wine in red and white. If you haven't yet, try it next time you get a chance.

O path, were are you taking me?

The craftsmanship of the builders shows in the walls that last generations, with stones simply laid on top of each other without any kind of cement.

La star du coin.

A testament to the time when water wasn't flowing in every house. Beautiful metal work.

The tree and the moon.

The benevolent moon over the open landscape.

Family photos from the 1940s

Here is a selection of family photos my grandma and I were going over the other day. They'll take you to France in the late 1940s /early 1950s. Beautiful people, really, without whom I would not have come to this world 34 years ago today.

Grandma in her 20s - love the post war fashion.

My grand parents at their engagement party.

Still at the engagement party, my grand parents, their parents, and my great-great-grandma.

My great grandpa was a cattle trader, much loved and respected in his community. What a handsome man!

Choosing the cow for the competition.

Talking business?

Day at the beach.

Forward to the late 70s: my mom and me, when I was blond and curly.

The streets of Fayence

From the streets of Fayence, a village built on the slope of a hill with intricate little passage ways. The church in one of my favorite places, so silent and cool in the heat of summer.

Skies of Provence

The sky in Provence is stunning. You can easily see why Van Gogh was inspired by it. The family house that I'm staying at is on the slope of a steep hill, near the top. Clouds get caught by the tip of the hill, giving rich texture and wonderful play of light. When the mistral - the wind coming from the north through the valley of the Rhone - blows, the air is so pure it's almost unreal. The sun just shines through like in a crystal.

Tomato shoot

On my first trip to the market in Charnay-lès-Mâcon, Burgundy, I saw these juicy tomatoes and thought that, before they are sliced and diced, they could be a great subject. The little wall at my grandmother's garden is the setting, and the on-and-off rain made the colors vivid.
